Study: Fox News is obsessed with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez - ABC News

Ocasio-Cortez says Ilhan Omars Life is in danger after Trump tweets 9/11 video

\nA study found that the New York City Democrat was mentioned 3,181 times on Fox News Channel and its sister Fox Business Network during the six-week period of Feb. 25 to April 7, or just under 76 times a day. Not a day went by when she wasnt spoken about on Fox.

\nThe liberal watchdog Media Matters for America, which did the research, called it an obsession and said the first term representative has become the networks latest bogeyman, \”someone for hosts and guests to demonize, knock down and refer to whenever grievances need to be aired against the Democratic Party.\”

Ocasio-Cortez coal-mine visit requires an apology to Crenshaw first, Ky. lawmaker says

\nFox has talked about Ocasio-Cortezs advocacy for a Green New Deal, called her a hypocrite for using cars and has fed off her social media pronouncements. Foxs Sean Hannity called her \”the real speaker of the House,\” instead of Nancy Pelosi.

Her comments prompted responses from Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, who called her remarks "unbelievable." Thursday’s cover of the New York Post addressed her remarks with a front page that featured an infamous photo of New York City’s Twin Towers on fire on the day of the attacks.

\nTucker Carlson has called her an \”idiot wind bag,\” a \”pompous little twit,\” a \”fake revolutionary,\” self-involved and dumb,\” a \”moron and nasty and more self-righteous than any televangelist.\”

\nFox personalities like Carlson and Jeanine Pirro have called her \”a bartender,\” in reference to a pre-politics job. There are also derogatory allusions to her youth, like when commentator Brit Hume said that \”shes kind of adorable in sort of the way that a 5-year-old child can be adorable,\” according to the research.

Ocasio-Cortez told Crenshaw, a former Navy SEAL, that he should focus on domestic terrorism after he slammed Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., for describing the 9/11 attacks as “some people did something.” In a March speech to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Omar spoke of the rise in anti-Islamic activity in response to terrorist incidents.

\nAsked for comment on Saturday, a Fox spokeswoman noted that Ocasio-Cortez, 29, has received plenty of media attention elsewhere, including prominent features in Time magazine, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone and the Hollywood Reporter. Foxs Laura Ingraham — who did a segment during the six-week period questioning whether Ocasio-Cortez would have to go to jail because of an aides alleged campaign finance violations — has invited her on her show and said she admired her political rise.

\nThe congresswoman tweeted a link to the Media Matters research, adding the comment, \”thats how hard theyre fighting against dignified health care, wages and justice for all; and turning their fire power on the youngest congressional woman in history to do it.

\nBeyond politics, Fox Business Networks Stuart Varney illustrated another reason that Fox would pay so much attention to Ocasio-Cortez.

Not-for-profit media watchdog Media Matters for America researched six weeks of news output by Fox News and its money-related arm, Fox Business, to arrive at the startling figure, as industry observers and pundits increasingly note the obsession with AOC by Australian media oligarch Rupert Murdoch — the owner of Fox News — even as Fox was recently outed as a tool of the Trump administration and the Republican right, according to The New York Times.

\n\”We have an AOC segment every day, almost every single hour,\” he said. \”Shes good for our ratings.\”

While inventing an image of AOC as a radical socialist who seeks to destroy America and the values of that nations Constitution, Fox and Murdoch are “fighting against dignified healthcare, wages, & justice for all; and turning their firepower on the youngest Congresswoman in history to do it,” tweeted the lawmaker on Friday, cited by The Guardian.

Share Geobeats Geobeats Apr 13th 2019 10:34AM Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is urging lawmakers to speak out against President Trump, who shared a video that was edited to suggest that Representative Ilhan Omar downplayed the 9/11 attacks.

Known by her initials, AOC, the left-wing American politician has gained a considerable fanbase since being elected as a Democrat to represent New York in the 2018 mid-term elections. If Ocasio-Cortez wants any advice on wooing the Glastonbury crowd, she can call on the leader of the opposition, who has said how much he admires her.

Members of Congress have a duty to respond to the Presidents explicit attack today, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Friday. @IlhanMNs life is in danger. For our colleagues to be silent is to be complicit in the outright, dangerous targeting of a member of Congress. We must speak out.

Two years ago the Glastonbury crowds went wild for a 68-year-old marrow grower from Islington. Now festival organisers hope to sprinkle some political stardust in the form of a glamorous 29-year-old congresswoman from New York.

Her post came after Trump tweeted the video that showed snippets of comments Omar made last month at a banquet for a Muslim civil rights organization interspersed with footage of the twin towers burning, notes the Washington Post.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has been dubbed the Beyoncé of politics, could follow in the footsteps of Jeremy Corbyn after being invited to speak by festival organisers.
