Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Says GOP Is Basically Dwight from The Office After Bizarre Fact Check

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday briefly grabbed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's gavel to preside over the House — reportedly becoming the youngest woman ever to do so.

"Every day here is a sacred privilege + responsibility entrusted to me by my community. I never forget that, and moments like these drive it home," she wrote.

Ocasio-Cortez, 29, presided over the House of Representatives for roughly an hour as part of a routine rotation of members, Reuters reported.

"According to banks, Id be more responsible, but my character hasnt changed. Just my math," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. "The myth that bad credit or struggling w bills = irresponsibility is a heinous myth. Paying people less than whats needed to live is whats actually irresponsible. GDP + costs are rising, wages are not. That doesnt mean YOURE bad. It means working people are set up to fail."

The congresswoman presided over "special orders," which typically consists of House members discussing their home districts after legislative business is completed.

Ocasio-Cortez responded, by quoting his tweet and offering some insights of her own regarding the GOP. She explained that the party and its supporters employ a “technique” to take “dry humor + sarcasm literally and ‘fact check’ it” regarding her claims. She also compared Republicans’ intelligence to “sea sponges” and “Dwight from the Office.”

“That was my first time presiding. And it’s exciting," Ocasio-Cortez told reporters. "It’s certainly a view. I wish we could, I wish we were allowed to take photos."

“Now I’m going through a huge income transition compared to living off tips. & I have HEALTH INSURANCE, which now means I have fewer expenses,” she elaborated. She further explained that her ability to pay bills now, and thus have better credit according to her banks, isn’t a sign that her character had changed, but rather, “just my math.”

Last month, Pelosi, D-Calif., described Ocasio-Cortez as "a wonderful member of Congress, as I think all of our colleagues will attest" as she said certain districts, like the freshman rep's, are "solidly Democratic."

“When we say ‘tax the rich,’ we mean nesting-doll yacht rich. For-profit prison rich. Betsy DeVos, student-loan-shark rich. Trick-the-country-into-war rich. Subsidizing-workforce-w-food-stamps rich. Because THAT kind of rich is simply not good for society, & its like 10 people,” she said.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Takes On Myths About Class, Wealth, Poverty

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson found some common ground on Friday evening with 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and Fox News’ arch-enemy – Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Carlson argued that the duo are "absolutely, indisputably right" to propose the Loan Shark Prevention Act. The legislation the two lawmakers unveiled on Thursday would cap credit card interest rates at 15 percent in order to protect “working people” from a predatory banking system.

The DSA has local chapters throughout the country. It does not claim to be a political party, but an organization that fights for “reforms that empower working people.” Though growing, the DSA is far from competing with the big guns. Allie Cohn, on the DSAs governing body, told NBC News last December that the organization had 55,000 members at the time. In contrast, registered Democrats and Republicans numbered over 44 million and 32 million respectively, according to a 2017 tally by Ballot Access News.

AOCs Blockbuster Netflix Deal Exposes Her True Celebrity Aspirations

“Today’s loan sharks wear expensive suits and work on Wall Street, where they make hundreds of millions of dollars in total compensation by charging sky-high fees and usurious interest rates,” the statement announcing the legislation said..

Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez added that the current median interest rate on credit cards is 21.36 percent, while banks are able to borrow money from the federal government with only 2 to 3 percent interest rate.

Given her consistent attempts to promote something that has already been struck down in grand fashion, one wonders if AOC isnt as concerned with changing Americas political spectrum as she is with increasing her screen time. Much like the Obamas, AOC is paving her way through the film industry while failing to produce any significant legislation that addresses problems that everyday Americans actually face.

"Credit card debt destroys people," Carlson argued. "High interest rates exploit the weak. Banks, meanwhile, can borrow money from the Federal Reserve at 3 percent interest,” Carlson said. “Do the math. It’s a very good business.”

AOCs Green New Deal – a list of pie-in-the-sky policies designed to fight climate change – has been widely criticized for being too broad and expensive. Among the proposals listed in the plan would be the introduction of hydrogen-fueled planes, which Ocasio-Cortez claims could lessen Americas carbon footprint, and the culling of farting cows, which increase the airs methane supply.

Carlson did not only have kind words however, he added, “They don’t mean half of what they say. The other half they don’t really understand. They’re not impressive. But on this one issue, they are absolutely, indisputably right.”
