Police Investigate Rape of UC Berkeley Student at Fraternity - NBC Bay Area

UC Berkeley student sexually assaulted at fraternity

Berkeley police say they are investigating a rape by two men of a University of California, Berkeley student at a fraternity house.

Berkeley Police spokesman Officer Byron White says the student, a woman, reported being assaulted after midnight Sunday at off-campus fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon.

The fraternity, whose Berkeley house is on the 2700 block of Channing Way, has ceased operations while police investigate, according to a national spokesperson.

White says the victim told investigators the assailants are about 18 years old and that its not known if they, too, are UC Berkeley students.

BERKELEY — A UC Berkeley student was sexually assaulted at a fraternity early Sunday, police said.

City police were looking for suspects and investigating after the victim reported the attack Sunday morning. The attack happened between midnight and 1 a.m. at a house in the 2700 block of Channing Way.

“The attack happened at a private residence,” Berkeley police spokesman Officer Byron White said. “There was a social gathering. That’s really about all we can say at this point.”
