Bridgeport school suffers water damage

According to those on scene, the roof dips down and collected a lot of water. After all the rain in the area this weekend, the roof collapsed and damaged the school.

No one was in the building at the time. The principal said she believes it happened sometime between 4 p.m. Sunday and early Monday morning.

The Bridgeport Fire Department responded to the scene. School officials learned of the flooding and alerted parents, closing the school for the day.

Now, 156 students in kindergarten through 12 could be displaced for weeks, according to the principal.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Heavy rain over the weekend led to structure damage Monday morning at a Bridgeport school.

Bridgeport Fire officials said ceilings inside the school were starting to collapse, and all three floors experienced damage after water accumulated on the roof overnight Monday and over the weekend.

School officials said they plan to secure an alternate location and hope to hold classes later in the week.
