A teenage girl has come forward as the mother of a newborn girl found by a caretaker at Perry Cemetery last month.
The 18-year-old notified police after seeing media coverage of the discovery and has been cooperating with the investigation, Carrollton police spokeswoman Jolene DeVito said Monday.
Detectives are awaiting test results to determine whether the baby, who still had her umbilical cord attached, was born alive. The child weighed just under six pounds and was estimated to be between 34 weeks to full term.
A caretaker found the infants body in the soil of a flowerpot on March 11. Officials believed the flowerpot was brought to the cemetery on Perry Road near Sherwood Lane between Feb. 27 and March 2.
