McCLELLANVILLE, SC (WCIV) — [Update, 9:30 p.m.] A Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot a suspected bank robber Friday night in Charleston County following a vehicle pursuit, officials confirm.
The incident happened on U.S. Highway 17 near McClellanville around 7:30 p.m., Georgetown County Sheriff's spokesperson Jason Lesley said.
The as yet unidentified suspect had robbed a Bank of America branch the Pawleys Island area of Georgetown County, Lesley said.
Afterward, the suspect led deputies on a car chase into Charleston County, where the shooting occurred during a traffic stop, according to Lesley.

The Awendaw-McClellanville Fire District have implemented a lane reversal on Highway 17 in the northbound lanes.
Charleston County Sheriff's Office deputies are assisting the Georgetown and Pawleys Island authorities as they try to apprehend a bank robbery suspect.
Charleston County deputies have closed southbound lanes of U.S. Hwy. 17 in the area of S.C. Hwy. 45 in McClellanville, where the bank robbery suspect reportedly crashed their vehicle after leading authorities on a chase.
A lane reversal is in effect on Hwy. 17 at Doe Hall Road, according to the Awendaw-McClellanville Fire Department. Southbound traffic on Hwy. 17 is being diverted into one of the northbound lanes.
Jason Lesley, spokesperson for the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, says the suspect robbed a Bank of America in Pawleys Island shortly before 6 p.m. Friday.
The man reportedly entered the bank and gave a teller with a note demanding money. He did not show a weapon, bank employees told investigators.
A large law enforcement presence was stationed along Hwy. 17 south in McClellanville as of 8:45 p.m. Friday night.
Charleston County deputies nor Georgetown County deputies have released further information about the situation.

A report states that a Georgetown County Sheriffs Office deputy shot the suspect on U.S. Highway 17 south of McClellanville at 7:33 p.m.
According to GCSO officials, the suspect, who robbed a bank in Georgetown County, led deputies on a car chase into Charleston County where the shooting occurred during a traffic stop.
Officials with the Awendaw-McClellanville Fire District say southbound lanes at Doe Hall Plantation Road are closed, and northbound lanes are being used to divert traffic.
