NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Investigators are searching for three suspects following a fatal shooting at a party in North Charleston.
Police say shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a home in the 3000 block of Nantuckett Avenue for a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a man inside the front door of the residence suffering from gunshot wounds.
The manager said that as he was walking in the parking lot outside the Ginos on Lee Street West, taking the money to the night depository of a local bank, a man struck him in the head.
According to NCPD officials, the initial investigation found that the victim was attending a party at the home.
The robber stole an undisclosed amount of money and ran toward the alley behind Charleston Light Opera Guild with another man.
As the party was breaking up, reportedly the victim became involved in a verbal altercation with three unknown black males, North Charleston police said.
Police ask anyone with information on the robbery to call them at 304-348-8111 or post to the department Facebook page.
A report states that during the fight, one of the suspects took out a handgun and fired shots striking the victim.
The three suspects then fled the location in an unknown vehicle, NCPD officials said.”The victim was able to make it back inside of the residence where he collapsed.”
Officers were called just before 2 a.m. to a residence on Nantuckett Avenue for a report of shots fired, agency spokesman Spencer Pryor said. There, police found a man, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, right inside the front doorway.
The man, who has not been publicly identified, was taken to Trident Hospital where he died, Pryor said.
Witnesses at the scene told police that the man who was shot had been involved in a fight with three other men as the party was breaking up. The fight moved to outside the residence, and one of the men produced a handgun and fired several times, Pryor said.
The three men then fled in an unknown vehicle. Police said, after the others fled, the man who was shot managed to get himself back inside the residence where he collapsed.
The mans death marks the 9th recorded homicide in 2019 for North Charleston and 23rd in the tri-county area, according to a Post and Courier database.
