Dayton tornadoes: 1 dead in Celina, Dozens injured in Dayton area

MIAMI VALLEY — A Celina man is dead and dozens have been injured across the Miami Valley following Monday’s tornado outbreak. 

The victim killed in the Celina tornado was identified as 81-year-old Melvin Dale Hannah, according to Celina Fire Chief Douglas Wolters.

NORTHWEST OHIO (WPTA21) — Several Ohio cities are dealing with the aftermath of Monday night’s storm.

In Celina, the Mercer County Emergency Management Agency tells us there’s heavy damage on the west side of town, where several homes have been damaged and potentially lost.

Celina’s Mayor, Jeff Hazel, confirms a man died during the storm. An 81-year-old died during the storm as a direct result of a vehicle entering his house. Seven people were also injured during the storm system, three seriously.

According to the National Weather Service, two suspected tornadoes touched down in the Dayton area, about 30 minutes apart.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is using snow plows to remove debris off interstate 75, trying to get the highways re-opened as soon as possible. As of the time of this report, at least 55,000 people are left without power in Dayton.
