Authorities investigating what caused 23-year-old mans death

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) – Neighbors called police to report a man who had collapsed and died in the alleyway behind a house in the 3600 block of Camino Real Trail.

Denton County Public Health is currently collaborating with the local authorities and the medical examiner to conduct a thorough investigation surrounding the cause of death, stated Jennifer Rainey, Public Information Officer. However, current knowledge of medical and travel history do not indicate an ongoing public health threat to Denton County residents.

Police said they had released incorrect information. Denton County health officials now say the death is being investigated like any other and the CDC has not been contacted. They added there is no public health risk.

As the investigation proceeded, it was determined that there were no signs of any infectious disease or traumatic injury and it is believed that an underlying medical issue led to the mans death.

The man had a large amount of blood on his face, but there was no obvious wound. Detectives later learned the man had recently returned from Vietnam and had been ill for several weeks, NBC DFW reported.

Police said in a press release they believe he died from an unknown illness and notified the Denton County Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to NBC DFW.
