Fargo city offices to close as winter storm hits – Minnesota Public Radio News

Many government offices in the Fargo, N.D., area will be closed as the area braces for a strong winter storm.

Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney has declared an emergency to close all non-emergency city offices on Thursday.

All Fargo City Hall departments and public libraries will be closed Thursday. There will be no bus service.

FARGO & WEST FARGO, N.D. – Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney and West Fargo Mayor Bernie Dardis declare an emergency to close all non-emergency city offices Thursday, March 14th.

In West Fargo, all nonessential city offices and buildings also will be closed Thursday. Cass County government offices also will be closed.

There will be no residential trash and recycling collection in both cities and the Fargo Sanitary Landfill and Household Hazardous Waste Facility are also closed.

FARGO — The blizzard conditions expected to hit the Red River Valley Wednesday evening into Thursday have prompted a number of closures throughout the area.

All Cass County government offices will also be closed on Thursday. The county says all 24/7 participants are excused from 24/7 Program testing Thursday.

Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney and West Fargo Mayor Bernie Dardis issued emergency declarations to close all non-emergency offices in their respective cities on Thursday, March 14.

All Fargo Public Libraries at 5:00 PM Wednesday and libraries in both Fargo and West Fargo will be closed all day Thursday.

The city halls and public libraries in both West Fargo and Fargo will be closed Thursday, along with Fargo Cass Public Health. The North Dakota Department of Human Services offices in Fargo, Grand Forks, Jamestown and Valley City will be closed, as well. West Fargo Public Schools cancelled classes and student activities, and Fargo Public Schools announced buildings would be closed and all student activities were cancelled.

This closure includes West Fargo City Hall and the West Fargo Police Department lobby at 800 Fourth Ave. E., West Fargo Public Works at 810 12th Ave. NW, and Sanitation Department at 117 Eighth St. W. and Transfer Station at 1620 Main Ave. W.

North Dakota State University, Minnesota State University Moorhead, Concordia and other area colleges have cancelled classes for March 14.

There will be no residential trash and recycling collection Thursday. Thursdays and Fridays garbage will be collected Friday. Thursdays recycling will be collected Friday and Fridays recycling will be collected Saturday.

Essentia Health clinics in the Fargo metro area and at several other locations across the Red River Valley region — including Jamestown, N.D., Ada, Minn., Detroit Lakes, Minn. and Valley City, N.D. — will be closed on Thursday.

They are also stressing the importance of moving all vehicles off city streets beginning at 10 p.m. Wednesday and continuing through 6 a.m. Saturday. This will ensure efficient and effective snow removal operations.

Residential trash and recycling collections scheduled for Thursday in both West Fargo and Fargo will be postponed until Friday.

As of Wednesday afternoon, city officials in Moorhead have not made announced any closures regarding government offices for Thursday.

Working together, West Fargo Commission President Bernie Dardis and City of Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney made this joint decision to protect residents and City staff members.

Moorhead Area Public Schools announced all after-school and evening activities for Wednesday have been cancelled.

Snow plowing services will continue and public safety agencies will be in full operation to protect and serve the residents of Fargo and West Fargo.

Several businesses and churches across the region have been closed for Thursday in anticipation of inclement weather.
