BERTHOUD — A 23-year-old Fort Collins man has died after being struck by a pickup on U.S. 287 in northeast Colorado.
The Loveland Reporter-Herald reports that the Larimer County Sheriffs Office says the incident occurred after 9:30 p.m. Monday at Berthoud.
It says the man, whose name wasnt immediately released, was walking in the southbound traffic lanes when a pickup driven by a 60-year-old man struck him from behind.
A 23-year-old Fort Collins man was struck by a pickup truck and killed while walking along U.S. Highway 287 in Berthoud on Monday.
The Larimer County Sheriffs Office said it received reports of a crash in the 1000 block of U.S. 287 at 9:37 p.m. Investigators determined a 60-year-old Berthoud man was traveling southbound on U.S. 287 in a Chevrolet pickup when the pickup struck the man walking in the southbound lanes, according to a news release late Tuesday morning.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and sole occupant of the pickup was not injured and was released at the scene.
The investigation closed the highway for five hours. Sheriffs office Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling investigators believe drug and/or alcohol impairment was a factor in the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
The Larimer County Coroners Office will release the Fort Collins mans identity after notifying next of kin.

This was the ninth fatality involving motor vehicle crashes in Larimer County this year. At this time last year, there had been 15 fatalities from crashes on Larimer County roads.
