The $200 million project is part of the Dallas Cowboys Star development and will open in 2021 just west of the Dallas North Tollway.
Dr Pepper will move about 1,100 of its employees from Plano to the new 350,000-square-foot Frisco office building that will join the Dallas Cowboys headquarters at the Star.
“They are going to be overlooking every day the practice fields of the Dallas Cowboys,” team owner Jerry Jones Sr. said at the groundbreaking. “Im not so sure tangibly thats going to make a difference in how Dr Pepper tastes.
Dr Pepper agreed in February to shift its local offices from Planos Legacy business park to the building that developer Lincoln Property will construct on the north side of the Cowboys practice field. The office project was designed by Dallas architect HKS.
The beverage firm will join companies including FM Global, Bank of America, PlainsCapital Bank and RBC Wealth Management that have offices at the Star along with the Cowboys.
Jones said recruiting Dr Pepper to the Star will pair two great brands. He said the company has had a long relationship with the Cowboys.
“Keurig Dr Pepper is a company that any brand — much less a team — would be honored to have that association with — to know their headquarters will be sitting right nearby the Dallas Cowboys headquarters,” Jones said. “We relish our association.”
The iconic Texas beverage company was acquired by last year for more than $21 billion by Massachusetts-based Keurig. The merged companies will have major offices in both states.
“Soon after we completed this merger, we started thinking about our headquarters,” said Bob Gamgort, Keurig Dr Pepper chairman and CEO. “We went on a search. That led us to where we are today.
“When we got here and saw this vibrant and growing community and saw the quality of what you built here, we knew that this would be our long-term home.”
Gamgort said the firm worked with commercial real estate company CBRE and architect Corgan to design the new offices.
“The building we are breaking ground on today is going be state of the art and will create an environment that will allow our employees to be their absolute best,” he said.
The beverage company is the sponsor for the Dr Pepper Ballpark, a minor league baseball stadium thats part of Friscos sports and entertainment district on Gaylord Parkway near Stonebriar Centre mall.
Frisco mayor Jeff Cheney said groundbreaking for Dr Pepper comes just five years after construction began on the $1.5 billion Star mixed-use project.
The project already includes Ford Stadium, the Cowboys headquarters and office building, an Omni Hotel, restaurants and retail and an apartment high-rise that will open later this year.
“Everything is better when you add Dr Pepper,” Cheney said. “It is Friscos first Fortune 500 company.
“Its going to bring other great brands to the city of Frisco — people who want to associate with the best.”

Just days after the opening of the GameStop Performance Center, the Cowboys broke ground on yet another addition to their rapidly-expanding facility.
Thursday marked the official groundbreaking of the new headquarters for Keurig Dr Pepper, which is opening its state-of-the-art headquarters right across the Cowboys practice fields from the team facility.
This is not only an exciting day for me, but for our organization, said Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones. We are proud to be standing here announcing that right across the way in front of you are going to be the new national headquarters of Dr Pepper.

When we got here, saw this vibrant and growing community, the quality of what youve built here and met the team, we knew this would be our long-term home, Gamgort said.
The 350,000-square-foot office building is slated to open in 2021, as roughly 1,100 employees will relocate to The Star.
This adds quite a heavy hitter to what is already a bustling business development at The Star. Keurig and Dr Pepper merged into one company last year, creating a Fortune 500 company in the process. It is one of the top 10 food and beverage companies in the United States.
Dr Pepper has been a brand that I have had such respect for and has lifted the Cowboys, Jones said. We all know the lineage of the Dr Pepper company, and so we hope by aligning ourselves with someone like Dr Pepper – for that matter, The Salvation Army or some of the other great brands were involved with – we hope all of that lifts the Cowboys image, as well. Dr Pepper is capable of doing that.
