A pilot was killed Thursday evening after a small twin-engine airplane crashed shortly after taking off the runway of a small municipal airport in Southern California, according to reports.
The FAA said the pilot was the only one onboard the plane. The crash occurred shortly before 8 p.m. the Fullerton Municipal Airport, which is about 20 miles south of Los Angeles, Fox 11 reported.

Footage showed the plane engulfed in flames. Firefighters arrived on the scene and extinguished the flames, according to officials.

A PLANE has crashed into the runway at an airport in the United States in a fiery explosion killing the pilot.
Emergency services were called to Fullerton Airport in Orange County, California, to reports a twin-engine aircraft had come down close to the runway.
Eyewitness Matt Borgelt shared a clip of the fireball on the runway on Twitter, writing: “Looks like an aircraft crashed at Fullerton Airport.”

Authorities have urged the public to stay away from the airport less than 20 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.
Ian Gregor, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) spokesman, said the plane had just taken off from Runway 24 when it came down.
