The woman lives in Placentia, California, a city in Northern Orange County, and health officials are warning people that she might have exposed them to measles in the area, the Los Angeles Times reported. The woman reportedly caught the disease traveling abroad at a country experiencing an outbreak, and its unclear whether she was vaccinated. The CDC reported that over 500 of the 704 reported measles cases were in patients who hadnt been vaccinated.
According to the Los Angeles Times report, after the woman contracted measles, she went to work for multiple days as well as the midnight premiere of Endgame in Fullerton, a city located in Northern Orange County. The Orange County Health Care agency warned that the AMC Theater on Lemon Street in the city between the hours of 11pm and 4am on April 25 as a possible exposure spot, Mercury News reported. Spokeswoman Jessica Good reportedly said that the exposure risk applies to anyone who was at the theater during that time period. The health agency added that the St. Jude Emergency Department the morning of April 27 and 5 Hutton Centre Drive in Santa Ana between 7am and 7:15pm from April 23 through 25 are also possible exposure spots.
Avengers moviegoers in Orange County may have been exposed to measles
Orange County health officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent by Gizmodo. Its unclear at this point what the patients status is or if there have been other patients that have been identified.
California is among the states hit hardest by the measles outbreak this year. A CDC report confirmed 38 cases of measles in California as of April 24, Mercury News reported, with 14 of those people contracting the disease traveling abroad. Just four of those people infected 22 others, and most of them were reportedly not vaccinated. Three out of the nine jurisdictions with measles outbreaks have also occurred in the state.
The woman who went to the massively attended Avengers film before she realized she had the measles was the first reported case of the viral infection in that California county, but as of the end of April, measles had been reported in 11 counties in the state.
The longer this continues, the greater the chances that measles will again get a foothold in the United States, Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the C.D.C.s director for immunization, said at a news conference, the New York Times reported.

Video: Did Woman Infect Avengers Moviegoers With Measles?
The LA Times reports that Orange County officials say a woman with measles may have exposed others in the region to the contagious disease, including people who were at a midnight showing of “Avengers: Endgame” in Fullerton late Thursday/early Friday.
Almost all cases of measles in the U.S. begin with people who traveled to countries where measles is prevalent.
The woman has now voluntarily quarantined herself at her home in Orange County while officials try to identify anyone who might have been exposed at the AMC movie theater in Fullerton.

The latest measles outbreak in L.A. County this year began when an area resident visited Vietnam earlier in 2019 and contracted measles, officials say.
Avengers: Endgame Audience May Have Been Exposed to Measles in California
The patient, the first to come down with measles this year in the county, lives in Placentia and contracted the illness when she traveled to a country with an outbreak, officials said. They did not say whether she had been vaccinated against measles.
This patient appears to have gone to work for a few days and seen a movie — likely the opening night midnight showing of Avengers: Endgame in Fullerton — before realizing she was sick.
The warning comes amid several major measles outbreaks nationwide and the highest number of measles cases across the nation in more than two decades. Officials in L.A. County declared an outbreak last week.
Measles is a highly contagious and potentially severe disease that causes fever, rash, cough and red, watery eyes, said Orange County interim health officer Dr. Nichole Quick in a statement. The MMR vaccine is a simple, inexpensive and very effective measure to prevent the spread of this serious virus.
Measles spreads through coughing and sneezing, but the virus can linger in the air for two hours after the sick person leaves the room, still infectious.
Measles symptoms include runny nose, fever and a red-spotted rash. Most people recover, but measles can lead to pneumonia, brain swelling and even death in some cases.
Orange County reports its first measles case of the year
Officials say people who were at the following locations should review their vaccination history and also monitor themselves for measles symptoms:
• St. Jude Medical Center emergency department, 101 E. Valencia Mesa Drive, Fullerton, from 7 to 9 a.m. April 27.
Two people were killed and four others were injured at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the Mecklenburg Emergency Medical Services Agency confirmed in a post on Twitter on Tuesday evening.
