Jackson joins a cast that includes Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington, and Rosemarie DeWitt. Based on Celeste Ng’s 2017 bestseller of the same name, “Little Fires Everywhere” follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives.

Based on the Celeste Ng bestseller, the ’90s-set drama “follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother (Washington) and daughter (newcomer Pearl Warren) who upend their lives. The story explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood – and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster,” according to the official logline.

Jackson will play Bill Richardson, a Shaker Heights attorney who hails from modest means, Bill is the perfectly-suited counterweight to his energetic and strong-willed wife, Elena (Witherspoon). But when Bill agrees to represent their friends in a fiery custody battle, the couple begin to fight about more than just their challenging youngest daughter, Izzy (Megan Stott).

Little Fires Everywhere Adds Joshua Jackson As Lead

Jackson was most recently seen in Showtime’s acclaimed drama “The Affair” and will next be seen in in the Ava DuVernay Netflix series “When They See Us.” He is also known for his roles on shows like “Fringe” and “Dawson’s Creek.”

Jackson is set to play Bill Richardson, husband to Witherspoon’s strong-willed matriarch Elena. Bill is described as an attorney who hails from modest means. He agrees to represent their new friends in a bitter custody battle.

The Dawson's Creek favorite has joined the cast of Hulu's highly anticipated take on Celeste Ng's Little Fires Everywhere.

In addition to Little Fires Everywhere, Jackson stars in the upcoming Netflix miniseries When They See Us, a four-part examination of the Central Park Five case. It is set to premiere Friday, May 31 (watch trailer).

The eight-episode limited series follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother (Kerry Washington) and daughter (Lexi Underwood) who upend their lives. The story explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood — and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster.

At Hello Sunshine, we strive to shine a light on female-driven stories that are rooted in inspiration, emotion and truth – all of which form the bedrock of Celeste Ngs ingenious work, Witherspoon said in a previous statement. Hulu has a rich history of transforming groundbreaking literature into groundbreaking television, and we are confident that their talented team will use this story to spur a long-overdue dialogue around race, class, and what it means to be a mother. With Kerry Washington, Liz Tigelaar and now Hulu, Hello Sunshine has brought together a dream lineup of creative collaborators, and we are privileged and humbled to have the opportunity to work with them to bring this important project to life.

Jackson, who will be a series regular, will portray Bill Richardson, a Shaker Heights attorney who hails from modest means, Bill is the perfectly suited counterweight to his energetic and strong-willed wife, Elena (Reese Witherspoon). But when Bill agrees to represent their friends in a fiery custody battle, the couple begin to fight about more than just their challenging youngest daughter, Izzy (Megan Stott).

As producers, we at Simpson Street are so proud to be part of this team to tell this extraordinary story inspired by Celeste Ngs phenomenal novel and we are thrilled to be embarking on this journey with Hulu, Washington stated in a previous statement. As an actress, I am floored to have the opportunity to work alongside Reese Witherspoon exploring the rich themes of this story playing these dynamic characters.

Little Fires Everywhere landed at Hulu following a multiple-outlet bidding war. Witherspoon's company, Hello Sunshine, snatched up the rights to the book before its publication and brought it to fellow star and exec producer Kerry Washington. Together, the actresses brought it to writer Liz Tigelaar (Casual, Life Unexpected) to adapt it and serve as showrunner. ABC Signature will exec produce the series alongside Hello Sunshine and Simpson Street. Tigelaar, Lauren Neustadter, Pilar Savone and Lynn Sheldon all exec produce. The package ignited a bidding war among those who heard the pitch. Sources note that several outlets attempted to take the package off the table, but Witherspoon and those involved insisted on letting everyone hear the pitch as they mulled the right home for the project. (In a rare move, network execs went to the Hello Sunshine offices rather than producers hopping from network to network.) Little Fires Everywhere will be a co-production between ABC Signature and Hello Sunshine. It is the first project on which the latter has served as the studio.

Rosemarie DeWitt (Mad Men) recently signed on to star as Linda McCullough, best friend to Reese Witherspoons Elena who takes in a child abandoned at a fire station after years of suffering to have her own child. She names the child Mirabelle and comes to love her as her own child but she runs into trouble when Mirabelles biological mother, a Chinese immigrant in the country illegally, resurfaces.

Jackson, repped by CAA, Anonymous Content and Hansen Jacobson, next appears in Netflix's Ava DuVernay drama When They See Us.
