Mom suspected in deaths of 2 daughters had left suicide note in house, police say

Russell said that there was "strong evidence" that the mother of the children is solely responsible for their deaths.

The father of the girls was interviewed by police and released. The mother, who remains in the hospital, has not yet given a statement. Russell said police were “hoping to get to a place where she can provide a statement.”

Police gave an update Wednesday on a homicide investigation after two girls, ages 4 months and 14 years, were found dead inside an Ontario home. The childrens mother has been named as a person of interest.

ONTARIO (CBSLA) — A homicide investigation is underway after a teenage girl and her baby sister were found dead inside their Ontario home Tuesday night.

Ontario mother left suicide notes indicating clear intent in plot to kill her 2 daughters then herself, police say

"Among that evidence is a suicide note left by the mother indicating that she intended to kill the children and to kill herself," Russell said, adding that the mother has struggled with depression.

Ontario police officials originally called it a suspicious death investigation, and later said they believe the girls were murdered inside the home.

Police said that two suicide notes were discovered, one inside the home and another in a vehicle. The contents of the notes were not disclosed to the public.

“It does not appear that there was any kind of noxious fumes involved,” Ontario police Sgt. Bill Russell told reporters.

Russell said that there appeared to have been a struggle at the scene and that the girls had "visible injuries," which may have played a factor in their deaths.

Authorities closed the area of the 500 block of East Tam O'Shanter Street where the public was asked to stay away from the area. The home is located near the intersection of Walnut Street just blocks away from Woodcrest Junior High School.

The cause of the death of the young victims remains under investigation, however, the Ontario Fire Department ruled out Carbon monoxide poisoning.

Ontario police were investigating a homicide after a 14-year-old and a 4-month-old, both sisters, were found dead at a home in Ontario Tuesday following a call of "unknown trouble."

No charges have been filed at this time. Investigators said they have still not had the chance to interview the mother.

The father of the two victims called police at about 4 p.m. and voluntarily gave a statement and is cooperating with authorities. He is not being considered a suspect, Ontario police said.

Russell said that the father voluntarily gave them a statement and is cooperating with authorities. He is not believed to have played a role in the girl's deaths.

The girls' mother was found inside the home with injuries and was rushed to the hospital where she is in stable condition.
