6 people shot, 1 fatally, in just 7 hours in Paterson, NJ

PATERSON, NJ – A violent day Thursday has law enforcement officials investigating four separate shootings that have left one man dead and five others injured.

As previously reported, members of the Paterson Police Department responded to reports of shots fired at approximately 3:34 p.m. in the area of Circle Avenue and immediately located two male victims. Both were transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center by Paterson Fire Department EMTs.

Just over an hour later two more men were shot near the intersection of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Governor Street. Both men, 30 and 32 years old, and Paterson residents, were transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center by Paterson Fire Department EMTs.

According to sources familiar with the incident, a third shooting occurred in the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Harrison Street with one man sustaining gunshot wounds just after 8:00 p.m.

A fourth shooting, possibly in connection with an armed robbery, is also said to have taken place at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the area of Madison Avenue and 3rd Avenue.

In a Facebook post Thursday night Mayor Andre Sayegh suggested that it is common in cities across the country for violence to increase when the weather gets warmer and offered reassurance that the Paterson Police Department "takes the safety of our citizenry very seiously and is relentless in combating crime."

A Passaic County man has been arrested on charges he shot two men on a Paterson street Thursday, authorities said Friday.

Richard Adams, 29, of Paterson, is charged with two counts of attempted murder after two city men were wounded at about 4:45 p.m. near the intersection of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Governor Street, according to police and the prosecutors office.

The victims, ages 30 and 32, both city residents, were taken to a local hospital and expected to survive.

In addition to attempted murder, Adams faces two counts of endangering an injured victim, weapons possession charges, possession of dumdum bullets – which are designed to expand on impact – and receiving stolen property, police said.
