A Pomona elementary school will be closed Friday after a motorist was killed following a 2:30 a.m. crash into a utility pole on La Verne Avenue west of Garey Avenue, police said.
The crash took place in the front of La Verne Science & Technology Charter, and authorities said the school needed to close for the investigation, Pomona police said.

“As a precautionary measure, La Verne Science & Technology Charter will be closed on Friday, April 12, 2019 due to police investigating a traffic collision in the area,” read a message on the school’s website.
At Least 1 Killed After Vehicle Crashes Into Power Pole Near Pomona School
The crash dislodged the pole and may have damaged power lines, according to a Pomona police statement.
An SUV hit a power pole on LaVerne Avenue west of Garey Street, right in front of the LaVerne Science and Tech Center, formerly known as Yorba Elementary School. The crash happened at 2:30 a.m., but police say the school will not open until the investigation is complete.
The crash left the power pole askew, and there may be downed power lines. Police say people should avoid the area during the fatal crash investigation.
