Conor McGregor takes a jab at Rafael dos Anjos after UFC Rochester win over Kevin Lee

Rafael dos Anjos of Brazil (R) outlasted Kevin Lee in their UFC Rochester main event before submitting the former lightweight title contender in the fourth round.

Before the start of the third round on Saturday night, Green scanned the crowd inside the Blue Cross Arena. Among the bright lights and 8,132 fans in attendance chanting his name, he looked over to section 123 and locked eyes with her.

I think thats going to get a number next to my name, hopefully by Monday, then Im looking at a top 10. Jack Hermannson, man, hes just killing it right now, and Id love to get him. Derek Brunson, Id love to fight him. So either one of those guys comes to mind,” Heinisch said. “But anyone in the top 10 will do. I want someone that, too we can really do something for the fans, because its kind of me fighting off these jiu-jitsu guys. Its exciting, man, but obviously its not the most exciting fight, but Im doing what I gotta do to win.

Some people dont even want their mom to be here, Green said. But like shes my best friend. Shes like my biggest fan. So being able to lock eyes with her in that third, it gave me that much more energy.

Honestly, I was expecting a first-round finish, but he was just elusive,” Heinisch said. “He got at me in a bad position in the first round, but Im no stranger to adversity. I weathered the storm and then going into the second round I just felt like that was all he had. I let him wear himself out a little bit and then I came out in the second, and I was like this is my time now.

His mothers calming presence gave Green, a Rochester native fighting in front of friends and family for the first time in the 585 under the UFC banner, the confidence he would need to defeat Charles Jourdain (9-2) (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC Rochester by unanimous decision.

Its not too hard to understand why Heinisch was feeling confident after his victory in the UFC on ESPN+ 10 co-feature bout. Junior came into the night on a five-fight win streak, with submissions in each of his past three. And he immediately put Heinisch in a bad way, so much so that it appeared Heinisch would be his next submission victim.

Green now has two straight victories and three wins in his last four fights. This win in front of his hometown crowd is something that he will never forget.

I just feel I can beat him, you know? Heinisch said of Brunson to reporters, including MMA Junkie, at Blue Cross Arena. Im believing it, and once I believe it, you know, it seems to come true. I believe in that right now and just watching his fight didnt impress me that much, and I would like to fight him.

This is probably the highest high Ive been, Green said. I wish I could just pause this moment and live in this moment forever.

After a performance like that, the Factory X product says he expects a number next to his name when the next middleweight rankings come out. And a fight that can prove he belongs among the elite.

Lee still fairly young. Did some good things but fought at a exhausting pace for anyone and it cost him. RDA back in the win column with a big finish and showed hes still among the elite circle. That circle is full of killers at 155 or 170 lbs#UFCRochester

ROUND ONE: Oliveira is two inches taller and has a whopping six inches of reach on Lentz. They touch gloves, Lentz starts out southpaw but will do a lot of stance switching. Uppercut in close from Lentz then they break from a clinch. Leg kick from Oliveira then he catches a kick and lands a straight right. Oliveira lands an elbow in a brief clinch. Lentz blocks a tornado kick and Oliveira lands a punch as the round ends.

This is a tough loss for Anderson as she suffers the second loss of her UFC career. She shows a lot of potential and huge upside with her nasty striking skills, but this one might have her on the outside looking in.

Rafael dos Anjos was under a lot of pressure before Kevin Lee victory

Pereira (23-9, 2NC) toyed with Danny Roberts (16-5) throughout the fight as he climbed the side of the cage multiple times in an attempt to land a superman punch and even attempted a somersault kick.

They hit the fence again, dos Anjos tries a single leg but Lee spins with him and moves to the back but can’t really get both hooks in and dos Anjos spins into him to be on top. Lee is trying to wall walk, dos Anjos moves to the back without hooks and lands punches. Lee to a knee, dos Anjos knees him in the thigh as they return upright and dos Anjos gets him down again. He missed on both accounts but his unorthodox fighting style helped add to an already explosive night at the Blue Cross Arena.

ROUND TWO: Lee back to reaching with the lead hand, he might be slowing already. Body kick from dos Anjos lands. Dos Anjos forces a clinch, Lee drives things into the fence and is looking for a takedown. Dos Anjos defends, grabs a guillotine as he’s taken down and uses it to sweep and regain his feet though still clinched. Lee is after a single leg, dos Anjos lands a few body shots and avoids being taken down. That kimura trap from dos Anjos breaks the grip and forces a separation. Jabs from dos Anjos then a high kick that wobbles Lee a little bit. Double leg from dos Anjos and he drives Lee to his knees but they’re against the fence. Lee is back to his feet, dos Anjos breaks without incident. Lee has a high kick blocked, dos Anjos lands a body kick. Lee lands a couple of punches and clinches but again dos Anjos is defending well. They trade knees to the body, then Lee drops his level but again can’t finish the takedown. Lee just can’t complete a takedown and dos Anjos is making him work. Rafael dos Anjos says there is only one fight that would bring him back to lightweight

Rafael Dos Anjos (29-11) has gone head-to head with the best welterweight fighters that the UFC has to offer in Robbie Lawler (28-13), Kamaru Usman (15-1) and Colby Covington (14-1).

His experience within the division was on display for fans in attendance and sent a message to the rest of the welterweight division.

In a grueling fight that lasted nearly four rounds, Dos Anjos wore down Kevin Lee (17-2) early on in the fight en route to an arm triangle choke 3:47 into the fourth round.

At 34 years old, Dos Anjos is still climbing the ranks of the contenders list and will look to add two more fights to his resume by the end of 2019.

Rafael dos Anjos showed once again why he is one of the top welterweights in the sport with a fourth round submission win in the UFC Fight Night main event from Rochester, N.Y.

After a pair of tough losses to current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and former interim champion Colby Covington in his past two fights, dos Anjos needed a strong performance on Saturday night and that is exactly what he delivered against Kevin Lee, was moving up to 170 pounds for the first time in his UFC career.

The main card saw Canadian debutant Felicia Spencer submit fellow former Invicta FC featherweight champion Megan Anderson to catapult herself instantly into title contention, while Vicente Luque finished last-minute replacement Derrick Krantz via first-round TKO.

As many expected, the fight really played out in two parts with Lee storming out to a strong start and dos Anjos biding his time to then attack his opponent once his conditioning started to fail him.

Lee came out like a ball of fire in the opening round as he immediately went on the attack with striking combinations and then attempting to pressure dos Anjos with his wrestling.

It was a strong start from the former lightweight but dos Anjos was able to weather the storm and begin battling back with his own counter shots.

“I knew he was going to be strong in the first round and he pushed through the third and I was just using my experience,” said the Brazilian after his victory.

Conor McGregor Reacts To RDAs Submission Win Over Kevin Lee

As the round wore on, dos Anjos began settling into a better rhythm as he fought off takedown attempts from Lee and then snapping off his combinations on the feet with good power and solid accuracy.

“Jason Parillo told me to do a little adjustment in the fourth, [and it] made a huge difference – stick to my jab, don’t load too much my punches.

Lee refused to back down as the fight moved forward and he was coming after dos Anjos with a relentless pace that carried into the second round.

Fouls aside (a headbutt and more than one fence grab by Heinisch; a brutal knee to the groin by Junior, none of which merited point deductions in the eyes of referee Todd Anderson), Heinisch imposed his will on Junior for the bulk of the final 10 minutes, winning wild scrambles and smothering his foe. Heinisch punctuated his performance by raining down punches from the top as time expired.

While Lee slowed down compared to the first five minutes, he was still moving forward with his takedown attempts as he tried to punish the Brazilian from inside the clinch. Still, Lees movement was definitely more deliberate and labored compared to the opening round.

In the one minute break between rounds, Lees corner advised him that this was going to be a war of attrition, which meant he was going to have to find a way to maintain his pace or risk running out of gas.

But if you didn’t already know, now you should: Heinisch is one gritty customer who can never be counted out. He proved this Saturday by rallying in a down-and-dirty fight to take the last two rounds and earn a unanimous decision on across-the-board scores of 29-28.

Dos Anjos definitely did his best to take advantage of Lee slowing down as he defended his opponents wrestling while constantly trying to reverse positions against the cage or on the ground.

“Im usually super explosive, but I had to be patient,” Heinisch said after his fifth straight victory. “This guy is one of the best in the world, a world champion.”

Twitter Reacts To Rafael Dos Anjos Submitting Kevin Lee At UFC Rochester

Lee was glued to dos Anjos throughout the third round as he transitioned into several positions looking for the submission but he just couldnt hold onto the former lightweight champion. Again and again, dos Anjos found a way to escape but he also just couldnt seem to completely break away from Lees grasp.

It was a grueling pace set by both fighters but it was definitely taking a bigger toll on Lee, who just continued to slow down with each passing exchange and that gave dos Anjos the confidence he needed to surge forward to ultimately get the win.

He immediately jumped into an arm triangle choke position, moved his body around to the side and cinched up the hold and there was no escape for Lee. He tried to resist for a moment but was then forced to tap out with the end coming at 3:47 into the fourth round.

I knew he would come strong in the first round and he pushed through the third, dos Anjos said about Lee after the fight was finished. I was just using my experience. I needed that victory.

While the two losses suffered to Usman and Covington will never be erased, dos Anjos knows that he has what it takes to compete with the top fighters in the division and hes still determined to earn his shot at the championship as he looks to build off this latest win.

Kevin Lee releases somber statement after UFC Rochester loss

I know that I have what it takes to be a world champion, dos Anjos said. I want to be ready for the right opportunity and Ill be ready to take advantage of it.

As for Lee, hes now dropped his past two fights in a row with his welterweight debut against dos Anjos and his previous bout at lightweight against Al Iaquinta. A supremely talented fighter, Lee has shown flashes of brilliance at times but he has come up short against the best competition hes faced at both welterweight and lightweight.
