Coroner releases name of 75-year-old man found in Rock River

The Winnebago County Coroner released the name of the 75-year-old man whose body was found in Rock River on Sunday.

The coroners office says an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday. The Rockford Police Department is investigating the death.

At this point, the coroner says it is not known how the man ended up in the river. However, he has been identified and the coroner’s office is working to locate and notify next of kin.

A body found in the Rock River on Rockfords west side is identified as a 75-year-old male presumably from Rockford, according to Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz.

Hintz says hes not sure how the man got in the river, but he wasnt there long before being located Sunday afternoon behind 111 West State Street.

The scene is located near the Luther Center. The call came in around 11:50 Sunday morning when someone walking downtown saw a body and called 911.

The Rockford Police Department, Rockford Fire Department, WInnebago County Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police are on scene.

ROCKFORD — A 75-year-old man was pulled from the banks of the Rock River Sunday behind the Luther Center, 111 W. State St.

Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz said the body showed no obvious signs of foul play and was in the water less than 48 hours.

The Luther Center high-rise is an assisted-living facility for seniors over age 60. It was unknown if the man was a resident of the center.
