Second suspect charged in the killing of Jamie Stephens, dumping body in Winnebago County

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) — With summer just around the corner, its never to early to start looking for a seasonal job or internship.

The city of Rockford teamed up with Rockford Park District and Winnebago County to host an internship and summer job fair on Friday. Job seekers had the chance to meet with recruiters from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at UW Health Sports Factory at 305 S. Madison St.

On Jan. 23, 2019, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Nickles T. Parks with first degree murder for the death of Stephens. He is currently in the Winnebago County Jail.

Representatives from the city of Rockford, the Rockford Park District, Winnebago county, Rockford Police and Rockford Fire Department were all on hand on hand.

Joshua Whittie, 19, of Rockford is charged with first degree murder, armed robbery and concealing a homicidal death, according to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.

“Were hoping for all walks of life,” said Brittany Krutz, human resources generalist for the city of Rockford. “We got positions for 16-year-olds, we got two local schools bussing kids over, and we got internships for college students and positions for seasonal workers for adults of any age.”

Deputies found Stephens off the roadway in a tree line and determined he was disposed of at that location. Authorities say he was shot several times.
