Rockford man wanted, another shot in the leg after gunfire exchanged - WIFR

Rockford man on the loose, wanted for Monday afternoon shooting

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) — Police have issued a warrant for a Rockford man accused of exchanging gunfire with a local resident, which led to another man being shot in the leg.

Mykel Curry, 29, is charged with unlawful use of weapons by a felon two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Rockford police responded to the 400 block of 27th Street after reports of a shooting. Investigators say two black male suspects had confronted a resident over a previous dispute.

Curry allegedly showed a handgun and fired several rounds at the resident. Then, the resident reportedly fired back using his own handgun.

Police say the second suspect with Curry was shot in the leg and treated for minor injuries at a hospital.

The second suspect and the resident were not charged, according to police. A warrant has been issued for Currys arrest with a bond set at $50,000.
