Topeka to get unseasonably cool temperatures Friday

Potentially messy weekend weather

Hope you enjoyed the sunshine that made its way out during the afternoon. Clouds are ready to roll back in tonight though. That will keep temperatures from falling too far tonight. Lows will drop to near 40 degrees by Friday morning.

Showers will begin to move in after midnight tonight and chances will increase to 70% by the morning drive Friday. On and off showers are likely to continue through the morning and afternoon. Theyll move out before the evening and any high school football games though. Cloudy skies are expected otherwise with highs only in the mid 40s.

TODAY: Increasing clouds and still breezy at times. Highs are only going to be around 52°, and wind chills will stay in the 40s this afternoon. A few light showers possible after 4pm. Winds: NW 10-15 mph.

Saturday will feature a mix of sun and clouds but a little more warmth. Highs will reach the lower 60s. There is a small chance of a shower in the evening but most of us will stay dry.

Colder air returns Sunday with mostly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 40s. Warmer air is set to move in next week.

Meteorologist Mark Larson says a quick-hitting rain-maker will race eastward out of Kansas Friday afternoon and itll be dry tonight but there are HUGE weather changes on the way Sunday; tumbling temps for everyone, measurable snow for some.

A fast-moving weather-maker will race to our east Friday afternoon, taking the rain with it, leaving behind decreasing clouds and highs in the 50s to near 60 degrees. Southerly winds will gust over 20 mph across western Kansas later in the day but theyll be lighter elsewhere.

Clouds will push back into our area from the south Friday night but well stay dry with lows in the 30s and 40s.

A strong cold front will make a hard push on Kansas from the northwest Saturday night then plow through the rest of our state Sunday. The front will bring accumulating snow to central and eastern Kansas with a rain/snow mix farther to the east. Gusty northerly winds behind the front will cause temps to tumble into the 20s and 30s by sunset Sunday with wind chills falling into the teens.
