TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) A Topeka Zoo keeper was injured after being attacked by a tiger Saturday morning.
The keeper was awake and alert when she was taken to the hospital, according to City of Topeka spokesperson Molly Hadfield. The keepers name has not been released.
Hadfield said she was attacked by the tiger Sanjiv, a male Sumatran tiger who arrived at the zoo in August 2017. All of tigers have been taken to their holding cell, where they will be kept for the rest of the day.
The Zoo was closed for approximately 45 minutes after the attack. It has since reopened with the exception of the tiger enclosure. Hadfield said a few visitors reportedly witnessed the attack.
